• Robert Penz, M.A.
    Manager, Owner

If a musician on our tour should suffer a life-threatening bout of stage fright, stay calm! As a trained hospital orderly, Robert is equipped for all situations, from calming an anxiety attack to cardiac resuscitation. But a single occupation as life-saver was not enough for him for the long term, so Robert studied cultural studies, founded backlight, and now takes care of making sure that your concerts are immune to unwelcome surprises.

  • Martin Wessel, M.A.
    Manager, Owner

Long time before backlight was founded, Martin was confronted with the painful realisation that neither his trumpet playing nor his bass playing would be enough for a life as a professional musician. The tears have dried by now and the detour via training as an industrial sales manager and a degree in cultural studies was worth it. He feels most at home behind the scenes, though the carefully choreographed stage changes during concerts also offer him enough space to let his creative side express itself.

    Key Aspects:

    Production Management, Stagemanagement, Tourmanagement

  • Ingo Schreiber

Our joker! Ingo is the man of many talents. He can serve as stage manager or trucker (driver’s license CE) or carry out all tasks in the technical production of folk, rock, techno and classical concerts. A trained photographer, Ingo can also bring along his camera for visual documentation of your concerts. The solution for all of your needs in just one person.

    Key Aspects:

    Stagemanagement

Part of the backlight team since 2011.

  • Kristin Finke

The only lady (yet) in the fixed backlight team is Kristin. After her studies in Darmstadt and an internship at the Beethovenfest 2016, we took the chance and routed her from the Rhine directly to the Elbe. Since the openings of Elbphilharmonie and Pierre Boulez Saal and Kristin’s associated intensive cooperation with the security authorities, she has the unofficial title “Frau Finke vom BKA”. In the backlight headquarter, however, she does rather BND-like secret service and provides almost unnoticed for tidiness and smooth procedures. But also on tour our artists appreciate these original-backlight characteristics: act in the background, work in the foreground!

    Key Aspects:

    Executive Assistance, Production Management, Tourmanagement

    Magister thesis topic:
On the musicality of language and linguistics of music.

Part of the backlight team since 2016.

  • Niklas van der Ven

Niklas comes from the cadre training unit of the National Youth Orchestra and passed the backlight school from scratch. After a brief interlude in Osnabrück he moved to MDR Symphony Orchestra in Leipzig as substitute orchestra inspector. The title “Inspector” now adorns his door plate in the backlight’s global headquarter in Hamburg.

    Key Aspects:
